Another lovely day in Perdido. Yesterday I walked along the beach in
the state park on Perdido Key and didn’t pass a single person for
two miles. I did actually see a couple with a dog in the distance
but that’s as crowded as it got. Unless, of course, you count the
pelicans. There were tons of them dive bombing into the gulf for a
snack. Sometimes I worry about brain damage from their Kamikaze
crashes but I guess it doesn’t really matter. I mean, how smart do
you need to be if all you do is fly, eat, poop and sit on a post all
day?
We’re experiencing winter low tides so sand
dollars are out in force. I collected a handful for my wife. She
puts them in a bowl that we’ll one day pass on to our grand
children, I guess. Hey, they make her smile so that’s reason enough
for me. Plenty of other shells are scattered everywhere and I
noticed a moon jellyfish here and there that had washed up.
The water is super clear and about xx degrees.
Perfect temp for the Snowbirds who think everything is warm down
here. And it is, compared to Chicago or Ontario. To me, 55 degrees
is an arctic chill.
Mardi Gras is coming up (Feb 5) so folks are
getting geared up for that. There’s a boat parade on January 19 that
goes from the Oyster Bar to the Flora Bama. They throw beads and
Moon Pies and everything.
Ya gotta love it.
